Australia - poll victory predicted for Conservatives

One week into the November 10 election campaign, Australian prime minister John Howard’s conservative government is set for resounding victory, according to a poll published today.

The AC Nielsen poll of 2,059 people taken on Tuesday and Wednesday showed the government leading the opposition Labour Party by 57% to 43% in the House of Representatives, where the majority party forms government.

The poll puts the government ahead of Labour in all states and territories, among city and rural voters and across all age groups except 18-24 year olds where they are neck and neck.
