US jets strike Kabul in daylight
US jets have struck Kabul in a daylight raid. Explosions can be heard in the area of the city airport and in eastern districts.
Al Jazeera TV has showed the jets over the city. Giant plumes of smoke can be seen from the area around the Taliban military academy and an artillery garrison on the eastern edge of the city.
It is the first daytime raid against the Afghan capital since the bombing campaign began on Sunday night.
Repeated explosions can be heard in the direction of the airport. Several jets streaked overhead and the Taliban gunners replied with sharp bursts of anti-aircraft fire.
