Alert as man, 63, is found to have anthrax

A case of anthrax has been confirmed in a man ‘‘of British descent’’ in America, US officials said today.

There was no evidence to link the ‘‘isolated’’ case in a 63-year-old man in Lantana, Florida, to terrorism, US Health Secretary Tommy Thompson told a news conference.

An investigation has been launched into how the man became infected and anyone else who needs treatment will be contacted, he said.
