An Iranian who allegedly threatened to ‘‘kill all Americans’’ when he was caught smoking on an international flight was remanded in custody in Los Angeles after a prosecutor argued that his actions threatened thousands of lives.

Javid Naghani was a threat not only to the 145 people aboard Air Canada Flight 792 but also to thousands of people on the ground in Los Angeles, Assistant US Attorney Dan Rubinstein told Judge Magistrate Jennifer Lum at a federal court hearing.
