The European Commission is considering the introduction of new laws which would ban banks from imposing "unacceptable" charges on customers moving money around the 12-nation euro-zone.

Single Market Commissioner Frits Bolkenstein told ministers meeting in Brussels that European banks have been continually warned about their exorbitant charges, but none have taken any notice.
