Ex-communist victory likely in Poland

Frustrated Polish voters handed power to a reformed party of ex-communists in parliamentary elections and sent the once-mighty Solidarity bloc into political oblivion, exit polls showed.

Two separate election polls gave the Democratic Left Alliance and its small ally, the Labour Union, a narrow but decisive parliamentary majority in yesterday’s election.
