Call from stewardess reveals final moments of Flight 17

A phone call by a stewardess from one of the doomed jets that crashed into the World Trade Centre has revealed the final terrifying moments on board.

Madeline Amy Sweeney made the call to her flight services manager after the American Airlines flight from Boston was hijacked by the team of hijackers, The Sun reports.

The FBI has praised the courage and composure of the 35-year-old mother of two for making the call.

She screamed: "I see water and buildings...Oh my God! Oh my God!" before the line went dead.

Moments later Flight 17 hit the North Tower of the World Trade Centre and exploded in a fireball.

Ms Sweeney told her boss Michael Woodward of the terror on board as the four hijackers - led by Mohamed Atta - ran amok stabbing passengers with knives and box cutters.

"A hijacker also cut the throat of a business-class passenger and he appears to be dead," she said.

She gave clear descriptions of the four terrorists and described them as Middle Eastern.

When the hijackers rushed to the front of the jet she said: "They have just gained access to the cockpit."

Ms Sweeney had been an employee of the airline for 12 years and preferred working weekends so she could spend school days with her family in Acton, Massachusetts.
