Some of the famous designers that have pulled out include Nicole Farhi, Katherine Hamnett, Clements Ribeiro, Paul Smith and Burberry.

Reasons for the pull out varied: some felt it was inappropriate to go ahead with the shows, while many others had their teams stranded in New York.

Meanwhile, American entertainers are digging deep to offer time and money to help those affected by the US tragedy.

US comedienne Rosie O’Donnell has donated almost £700,000 to the Red Cross while Jennifer Lopez gave a £16,000 cheque to the relief fund.

Madonna has resumed her Drowned World Tour and has pledged the proceeds from her remaining shows to the relief funds.
