Madonna gives gig proceeds to help terror victims

Madonna has donated the proceeds from a gig in Los Angeles to help the US terrorist attack victims and their families.

Other US artists including Backstreet Boys and Incubus have also pledged cash to the American Red Cross and fire department funds.

Radio stations and music companies such as Vivendi, EMI and BMG have also made big donations.

Madonna told the audience she was donating the proceedings of her Staples Centre concert after holding a minute's silence before the first of three gigs at the venue.

The singer had postponed the first Los Angeles gig, originally scheduled for Tuesday, after the New York and Washington attacks took place.

The rearranged gig will take place tonight.
