Eurotunnel loses bid to close camp

Eurotunnel has lost its legal bid for the immediate closure of the Sangatte refugee camp near Calais.

A French court has rejected the Channel Tunnel operator’s appeal saying it failed to prove the urgency of the case.

Eurotunnel had alleged that Sangatte is a hub for illegal immigration into Britain and that it is costing millions of pounds in disruption of business and security.

A full court hearing will take place in the next few months.
