Suicide bomber at Israeli train station

Three Israelis have been killed and seven injured when a bomb exploded at the station in the northern Israeli coastal resort of Nahariya.

Police and eye-witnesses say the bomb was set off by a Palestinian suicide bomber.

An ambulance service spokesman says there are dozens of victims, but no accurate casualty figure is immediately available.

"I was stopped at the traffic light when I heard a tremendous explosion from the direction of the train station. I saw smoke rising and within a few seconds ambulances arrived," said an eyewitness, who gave his name only as Yorem.

The explosion occurred hours after two Israelis were killed and four injured in a drive-by shooting in the West Bank.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for Sunday's attacks.

However, radical Palestinian groups have carried out bombings throughout the 11 months of Mideast fighting.

The latest violence cast doubts on a possible truce talks between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres.

The two are expected to meet in coming days, but the time and place has not been set.
