The Australian Government hopes to work closely with Jakarta to stem the tide of illegal migrants passing through Indonesia on their way to Australia, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said today.

‘‘People-trafficking is one of the ugliest and most unproductive practices that is taking place anywhere on earth today,’’ he said after arriving in the Indonesian capital.
