Man killed by shark in US

A shark attacked and killed a Russian man swimming off the coast of Avon, North Carolina yesterday.

A woman is in critical condition.

The couple had been swimming 20 to 40 feet offshore near a sandbank when they were attacked.

The man died at the scene while the woman underwent emergency surgery for substantial wounds to the lower torso.

The man was 27 and his partner 23.

The victims’ names were not released.

Both were Russian nationals living in Washington, DC.

The death came just two days after this year’s first fatal shark attack at Virginia Beach, Virginia.

A 10-year old boy was attacked in 10 feet of water, and suffered a 17-inch gash to the leg.

His father hit the shark in the head to stop the attack but the boy died hours later from massive blood loss.
