Woman dies in bomb attack on Chechen cabinet

A woman was killed and five were injured when a powerful explosion tore through the headquarters of the Russian-backed Government in Chechnya during a Cabinet meeting today.

The blast came three days before the tenth anniversary of Chechnya’s initial declaration of independence - a date rebels have promised to mark with attacks and even a military parade in the southern region of Vedeno, where they remain highly visible in spite of Russian forces.
