Scotland on foot-and-mouth alert

Four farms in Scotland are on foot-and-mouth alert today amid fears that the highly infectious disease has again spread from England to neighbouring countries.

Precautionary measures and restrictions on livestock movement were placed on the farms in the Lauder area yesterday after reports that they had dangerous contact with a farm affected by the latest outbreak in England.
