The space shuttle Discovery returned to Earth safely last night, bringing home two Americans and a Russian who spent almost six months living and working on the international space station.

Discovery left the Alpha station on Monday after dropping off a new three-man crew.

The old crew arrived on the station in March, circled the Earth approximately 2,600 times and logged more than 70m miles.
