Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer today rejected calls by legislators to ban Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe from a Commonwealth summit in October.

Mugabe is one of 54 leaders expected to attend the summit of Britain and its former colonies and dependencies. The October 6-9 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), is being held in the eastern Australian city of Brisbane.
