At least 75 dead after fire at Philippine hotel
At least 75 people have died in a fire at a hotel in the Philippine capital, Manila, last night.
The blaze broke out at around 9.30pm local time at the Manor Hotel in Quezon City, a suburb of Manila.
Fire crews said anti-burglarly bars erected across the hotel’s windows trapped many of the victims in their rooms while the flames engulfed the building.
Many of the hotel’s fire exits were also blocked, locked or led to dead ends, while the hallways and rooms were not equipped with fire extinguishers.
It is not clear how many guests were in the building, but firefighters are still searching the burned-out rooms for more bodies.
