Man arrested over Danielle murder

A 43-year-old man has been arrested over the murder of Danielle Jones.

The man from Grays, Essex, was arrested this morning on suspicion of the murder.

An Essex Police spokesman says he will be questioned later at Harlow.

British police are still searching for the body of the missing 15-year-old. They spent yesterday doing a fingertip search of a building site near her home.

Specialist search teams started sifting through rubble and demolishing house foundations at the site in Grays after receiving "significant" new information.

A dozen policemen in boiler suits and hard hats spent the day carrying out a "meticulous and painstaking" search at the one-acre site in Connaught Avenue, within a mile of the last unconfirmed sighting of the 15-year-old who disappeared on June 18.

Danielle went missing after leaving her home in Coronation Avenue, East Tilbury to catch the bus to school.

Two male school friends saw her make an abrupt U-turn after she left the house. Other witnesses saw her arguing with a white man and getting into a blue Transit-style van.

The last sighting of her, although unconfirmed, was in London Road, Grays, again in the van, within a mile of the search site.

Detectives believe Danielle was abducted. And her mother Linda, 41, has said only "the minutest" part of her believes the youngster would be found alive.
