Biggs back in prison

Ronnie Biggs has been taken back to prison after a hospital blood transfusion.

His condition is described as stable by staff when he left the Queen Elizabeth military hospital in Greenwich, south east London.

The 72-year-old former fugitive is now back in the medical wing at nearby Belmarsh top security jail.

He is serving out the rest of his 30-year sentence for robbing a mail train in 1963.

He was rushed to hospital on Sunday night after he began haemorrhaging, and was given a blood transfusion.

It was his second visit to the Queen Elizabeth - in June he spent a week there after suffering his fourth stroke.

His son Michael was at his bedside on Monday but missed him today.

The robber, who was on the run for 35 years before returning to justice from exile in Brazil earlier this year, has been in declining health and is fed through a tube.
