114 now dead after Thai flash floods

The death toll from flooding in Thailand which began last Saturday has risen to 114, including 21 pupils from the same school.

The floods have hit eight northern provinces, with at least 90 people dying in the village of Nam Kor alone.

Flash floods occur in Thailand every rainy season, which lasts from June to October.

The danger has worsened in recent years because massive deforestation has eroded the top soil that would normally absorb rainwater.
