Palestinians protest against Israeli occupation

The Palestinian population is holding a general strike today in protest at Israel's takeover of their unofficial headquarters in east Jerusalem.

Israeli troops seized Orient House, the headquarters of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, last week and have refused to vacate the building.

Palestinian-run shops and businesses throughout east Jerusalem and the West Bank are closed today in demonstration against the action.

Dozens of protestors also scuffled with Israeli police outside Orient House after they tried to raise the Palestinian flag.
