Israeli motorist gunned down

Palestinian gunmen shot and killed an Israeli motorist in the West Bank today, the second deadly shooting attack in the area in three days.

The man was driving to the Jewish settlement of Tzofin when his car was riddled with gunfire, the army said.

The shooting was just a few miles from where a pregnant Israeli woman was shot and killed on Sunday night.

Palestinian militants have targeted Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip throughout the more than 10 months of Mideast fighting.

Many settlers commute to Israel daily to work and shop.

They often travel on isolated roads that are vulnerable to ambush shootings.

Meanwhile, Palestinian leaders rejected Israel’s demand to arrest seven ‘‘main terrorists,’’ and both sides issued warnings that hinted at more bloodshed.
