The turbo-charged Saab which was blown up in the Ealing bombing was first registered in the Middlesbrough area, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency said today.

The E-registered vehicle would have been originally purchased between August 1987 and July 1988, an agency spokeswoman added.

Cleveland Police officers have yet to be contacted by Special Branch about the Saab 9000’s origins, a force spokeswoman today said.

A Newcastle Saab dealer today said an E-registered 9000 Turbo would have cost about £16,000 new, depending on the specification, and on the second-hand market could still fetch around £2,000.
