Queen Mother to be treated for anaemia

The Queen Mother is being admitted to hospital after being diagnosed as suffering from anaemia.

Palace aides insist she is not seriously ill.

The Queen Mother will be 101 on Saturday.

"There is no cause for alarm," said her private secretary, Sir Alistair Aird.

He added: "Her Majesty will be undertaking her usual birthday engagements at Clarence House on Saturday."

Barriers are being erected outside London's King Edward VII Hospital, along with orange traffic cones.

Police are guarding the front entrance.

The Queen is standing in for her mother at a ceremony in London later today.
