Boy arrested after his mother is stabbed

A 13-year-old boy was today being questioned by detectives after his mother was stabbed in the stomach.

The boy was arrested for attempted murder after police were called to the family home in Kensington, Liverpool.

His 44-year-old mother was rushed to hospital, where her condition was described as serious but not life-threatening.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: ‘‘We can confirm that a 13-year-old boy from the Kensington area of Liverpool has been arrested for the attempted murder of a 44-year-old woman following an incident at 3.10pm in Kensington.

‘‘The woman suffered a stab wound to the stomach. Her condition today is described as serious but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

‘‘The youth was detained at a police station on Merseyside and will be questioned by detectives today.’’

The boy is well known to police, social services and residents of the deprived Kensington area but he cannot be named for legal reasons.
