G8 protester shot in head in Genoa

A protester has reportedly been shot dead by an Italian paramilitary policeman in the G8 summit protests in Genoa.

Various reports say the man, who was shot in the head, was then run over by a security van.

It is understood the protester had earlier thrown a fire extinguisher at the vehicle.

The reported shooting follows hours of intensive riots in the city in north-west Italy where the leaders of the world's richest nations are meeting.
