India on brink of war with Pakistan

India and Pakistan are coming close to full-scale war.

Army gunners have shelled each other across the line that divides Kashmir in the sector where the two forces fought two years ago.

Indian Government officials claim the Pakistanis began shelling in the Kargil sector of the Himalayan region that both Pakistan and India claim.

A federal Indian Home Ministry official in Srinagar, summer capital of Jammu-Kashmir state, said the shelling began on Thursday evening and both sides had fired at each other.

It is the first time since the 1999 war that shelling had been reported in Kargil.
