Macedonia rejects latest peace proposal

Macedonia's ruling party has rejected a peace proposal aimed at ending an insurgency by the country's ethnic Albanian minority.

President Boris Trajkovski ruled out co-operating with the US and EU-brokered agreement because he said it grants too many concessions to the minority ethnic Albanians.

The President's VMRO party criticised the peace plan after ethnic Albanian politicians demanded that Albanian be declared an official language alongside Macedonian.

VMRO described the demand as an attempt to 'undermine the unity and integrity of Macedonia'.
