Bus boss comandeers vehicle for pregnant woman
An American transport boss took control of one of his buses and organised a police escort to drive a pregnant passenger to hospital.
Richard Daley, head of Boston Massachusetts Transport Authority's buses, was in his car when he heard a driver's message on the radio. He said her waters had broken.
Mr Daley rushed to the scene and drove the 40ft-long vehicle to hospital.
Reports don't yet say the condition of the mother and baby at the Boston Medical Centre.
"Everyone at the hospital, they were laughing like hell. They had never seen a bus pull up to the emergency room before,'' Mr Daley said.
He said the patient, Marieta Montoute, didn't speak English well, but was able to show how she was feeling through her grip, according to reports.
"She almost broke my hand when she was squeezing,'' he said.
