Japanese ambassador protests at Chinese tariffs
Japan’s ambassador to Beijing has formally protested at China’s decision to slap 100% tariffs on imports of Japanese cars, mobile phones and air conditioners.
Koreshige Anami met Long Yongtu, vice minister of China’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, and demanded that China retract the punitive tariffs, a Japanese foreign ministry official said.
Beijing’s move will effectively double the price of the Japanese imports for consumers, vastly reducing their competitiveness in the Chinese market.
