£9m heroin haul seized in Scotland

Heroin with an estimated street value of £9m has been recovered by Scottish police.

Heroin with an estimated street value of £9m has been recovered by Scottish police.

The drugs were recovered after officers stopped a vehicle on the M74, near Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, yesterday morning.

A 30-year-old man from the Glasgow area is expected to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court in connection with the seizure.

Detective Superintendent Bill Gillis said: "A seizure of this size will have a significant impact on the wider distribution network operating in this country."

Police forces across Scotland are currently highlighting the issue of drugs in a major campaign.

Mr Gillis said: "This is another excellent example of the good work undertaken by all the Scottish police forces as part of the ongoing national Know the Score Campaign."
