Madonna was very much the Material Girl yesterday as she fitted in some last-minute shopping in the Italian fashion capital Milan before kicking off the second leg of her new tour.

With bodyguards and husband Guy Ritchie in tow and tying up some rush-hour traffic Madonna hit the top shops in Milan, popping into Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Alberta Ferretti and Versace.

Left outside the boutiques were delirious fans, tourists and passers-by curious about all the fuss surrounding the pop superstar, who was dressed for the shopping spree in a white motorcycle jacket, black pants and sunglasses.

Ritchie, for his part, had a camera around his neck and snapped some pictures of his famous wife posing in front of one of the stores.

Madonna opened her Drowned World Tour in Barcelona, Spain at the weekend her first tour in eight years and is due to take the stage tomorrow night at Milan’s Palavobis hall for the first of three performances.

She wraps up the European leg in London on July 12 and then heads to the United States for a series of concerts that end on September 14 in Los Angeles.

Madonna is staying at the Villa Fontanelle home of Italian designer Donatella Versace outside Milan.
