US President George W Bush tonight tried to win back favour with Europe by saying his Government would work to tackle on global warming.

Mr Bush’s commitment to take ‘‘a leadership role’’ on the issue came on the eve of his five-day trip to Europe when he is likely to come under fire for abandoning the Kyoto agreement on cutting the pollutants blamed for climate change.
