Servicemen killed in landmine blasts

Eight Russian servicemen were killed and 11 wounded in a series of land mine explosions in the breakaway republic of Chechnya, an official said today.

One other soldier was killed and 11 were wounded when rebels attacked Russian positions and checkpoints 24 times over the past 24 hours, the official in the pro-Moscow Chechen administration said.
