An explosion in an Indian chemical plant has killed at least 11 workers and injured 10 others.

Police believe the blast was caused by heavy pressure building up in the plant's main boiler, the Press Trust of India news agency says.

Thirty-five workers were on the night shift when the explosion occurred at the Expogel plant in Pune, 70 miles south east of Bombay.

Guanidine nitrate is produced for use in explosives at the site.
