£16m Bush sets fundraising record

President George W Bush helped set a new Republican fund-raising record, serving as the star attraction at a Republican gala that took in $23.9m (£16.6m).

More than 2,000 Republican donors attended the black-tie dinner at the National Guard Armoury in Washington last night.
