Wild dogs attacked two female tourists at an Australian resort where a nine-year-old boy was mauled to death, officials said today.

The women sustained minor injuries in the separate dingo attacks late last night on Fraser Island, off Australia’s east coast, a spokeswoman for Queensland state Environment Minister Dean Wells said.

One of the two dingoes believed responsible for biting the women was killed today by a park ranger, the spokeswoman said.

Authorities were still tracking the other dingo, she said.

The attack is one of several in recent weeks on Fraser Island, one of them fatal.

The mauling of the nine-year-old boy prompted the Queensland government to order a limited cull of the island’s dingo population.

The traditional Aboriginal owners of Fraser Island oppose the culling, and called last week for dingo fences to keep the animals away from tourists.
