Bid to murder policeman: man in court

A man appeared before British magistrates today accused with attempting to murder an off-duty police officer, police said.

PC Robert Aynsley, 33, was repeatedly stabbed with a screwdriver after he caught a teenager trying to break into his car parked outside his home in Wylam, Northumberland last week.
