Skull dug up in garden

Human remains have been unearthed by a man digging in his back garden, Scottish police said.

A skull was discovered on Friday night in the garden of the house in Buckie, Scotland.

Grampian Police sealed off the area and are treating it as a potential crime scene.

The skull has been passed to the police pathologist for examination.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Iain McCombie said he expected it could be a lengthy and very detailed inquiry.

He said: ‘‘The remains have to be identified and the cause of death determined.

‘‘Our search and inquiries will all be directed at establishing the identity of these remains and circumstances of this death which will be treated as suspicious until the full facts are known.’’
