Party leader abandons hunger strike

Italian political leader Emma Bonino has abandoned her hunger strike because her health was getting more attention that her cause media coverage for small parties.

But the former European Commissioner said she was ready to resume her fast if her demands were not met.

"People talk more about my condition than about the health of democracy and freedom," Bonino said in a statement from a Milan hospital.
