Mama and Papa's daughter says father taught her to inject

The actress daughter of the founder of sixties band The Mamas and The Papas has spoken about her fight against drug addiction.

The 41-year-old former child star, Mackenzie Phillips, said she forgave her father John on his deathbed for contributing to her addiction.

Mackenzie said her father, who died on March 18 of heart failure, taught her to roll joints when she was 10 years old and to inject drugs when she was 18.

Recovering addict Mackenzie has now been sober for nine years.

She said: "I know my father always loved me. He just had a messed up way of showing it because he was an addict himself. Alcohol and addiction is the strongest destroyer of minds and hearts and families there is."

Mackenzie played a pushy child hitchhiker in the film American Graffiti.

She also appeared on the television show One Day At A Time until she was fired in 1982 for addiction-related unreliability. She now features in the Disney Channel series So Weird.
