Princess Margaret has suffered some loss of vision after a series of strokes, it emerged tonight.

The 70-year-old sister of the Queen was reported to be devastated by the side effect of her recent strokes and senior members of the Royal Family were said to be resigned to the knowledge that she would not regain her eyesight.

But sources said that it was still hoped the ‘‘vision impairment’’, which was one symptom of the strokes, would prove to be temporary.

‘‘One of the symptoms is impairment of vision, which may well prove temporary,’’ the source said.

Buckingham Palace refused to confirm the report.

A spokeswoman said: ‘‘Princess Margaret is continuing her recovery but it will be some time before we know its (the stroke’s) full effects.’’

Margaret has been spending Easter at Windsor with the Queen, she said.
