Two petrol bombs have been thrown at police during riots prior to a football game.

A series of fights broke out in Oldham, Greater Manchester, before a match between Oldham Athletic and Stoke City this afternoon.

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police Force said officers dealt with a number of disturbances relating to the football match.

He added: ‘‘Two petrol bombs were thrown at officers in the Chadderton Way area of the town. Thankfully nobody was hurt. A number of arrests have been made.’’

Trouble also broke out in North Wales this afternoon before a match between Wrexham and Millwall football clubs.

Some fans were arrested before the match, which was delayed for 15 minutes, after a number of minor disturbances around Wrexham.
