Four-year-old tries to take car for a night-time drive

A four-year-old boy attempted to take his parents' car for a spin in the early hours of the morning.

Residents in New Milton, in the New Forest, heard someone attempting to start a car in the early hours of this morning and thought it was a criminal trying his luck.

Police were called and gave the child a quick telling off before tucking him up in bed.

Insp Alan Birtwistle, of Hampshire Police, said: "This four-year-old obviously fancied going for an outing in the car but did not have his parents' permission so we gave him suitable advice and tucked him back up in bed."
