Air rage thug jailed for four years
A drunken British tourist who smashed a bottle into the face of an airline stewardess in an air rage attack has been jailed for four years in Spain.
Steven Handy, who was originally from London, was also ordered by a court in Malaga to pay £6,000 to his victim, Fiona Weir.
Handy, who left his victim scarred for life, admitted the attack at a previous court hearing.
He left Ms Weir, from Wimbledon, south west London, lying in a pool of blood after the assault on an Airtours flight from Gatwick to Malaga in October 1998.
He also admitted assaulting a Spanish policeman at Malaga airport and was ordered to pay him £610.
Airtours International welcomed the sentence for Handy, who was already being held in jail in Spain.
Spokeswoman Deborah Sadler said: "We are delighted that justice has been done."
