Train robbed at both ends at same time
Johannesburg police are investigating if there is a link or coincidence after a train was robbed at different ends at the same time.
One gang stole goods off the back of the train, while another group stole money and jewellery from the driver and his assistant at the front.
Police say the driver had stopped the goods train at a railway signal on the East Rand when the gangs struck.
Two armed men forced the driver and his assistant to lie down and hand over cash, a mobile phone and jewellery valued at R1,600 (about £135).
While that robbery was under way, another group of men forced open a section of the train and removed various goods, reports said.
