Israeli missile attack on Gaza security targets

Israel has hit Palestinian security targets with surface-to-surface missiles and tank shells, killing a policeman.

The attack comes after Palestinians fired two mortar shells at a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip.

Twelve Palestinians were injured in the attack on buildings in Gaza City and the nearby town of Deir el-Balah, Palestinian doctors say.

In the past week, there has been a daily exchange of mortars and rockets, a sign of a continued escalation in Israeli-Palestinian fighting even as the United States is trying to arrange ceasefire talks.

Palestinian police said two surface-to-surface missiles hit the naval police headquarters, killing 30-year-old Lieutenant Wael Quoweiter.
