Oil rig protest ends

Two protesters have come down from a North Sea oil rig, ending a 30-hour demonstration.

The activists had continued to occupy a capsule attached to the underside of the Santa Fe 135 oil rig, 30 miles east of Aberdeen, despite a court ruling yesterday ordering them to stop their protest immediately.

They were among six demonstrators who scaled the rig, operated by BG International, yesterday morning in a protest over global warming.

Four campaigners came down yesterday after the company applied to the High Court in Edinburgh for an order to remove them.

Greenpeace confirmed the remaining two protesters, a man and a woman, had abseiled down after spending just under 30 hours slung underneath the rig.
