Parisian serial killer jailed for life

A 38-year-old Frenchman dubbed ‘‘the killer of eastern Paris’’ was jailed for life today for the rape and murder of seven women.

Guy Georges, who admitted to the killings during the trial will not be eligible for parole for 22 years.

Before the verdict was delivered, Georges turned to his victims’ families and asked the court not to impose a life sentence.

‘‘I am nearly 40 years old and I will never get out. You can rest assured. I won’t complete this sentence,’’ Georges said. ‘‘I am going to inflict my own sentence.’’

Following his confession last week, Georges consistently asked for forgiveness from the victims’ families.

His seven victims were found dead in eastern Paris between 1991 and 1997 with their throats slit. The attacker apparently talked his way into their homes before killing them.
